Administration of Perm City held a meeting with Mexican people’s diplomacy representative Olivia Gorra
Deputy Chief Executive of Perm City Administration Vyacheslav Torchinsky and Mexican people’s diplomacy envoy Olivia Gorra discussed municipal cooperation prospects in culture.
It is worth noting that the honorable Mexican visitor is known as the founder of Olivia Gorra Cultural Center, a producer and a brilliant opera singer. Olivia is empowered by the Mexican President to act as the Ambassador of Culture for the country.
Olivia has been an active part of the links with Russia since 2012 and was twice a participant of the “Viva Mexico” festival held as part of “The White Nights in Perm Festival”. Since 2013 she has been involved into a joint project with Perm State Institute of Culture, «Russian- Mexican Alliance», aimed at promoting international cooperation in culture and comprehensive support to talented youth, culture students and teachers both in Russia and Mexico.
The meeting was centered around the discussion of possibility to establish twinning links between Perm and Mexican cities. Vyacheslav Torchinsky, Deputy Chief of Perm City Administration noted that the city’s authorities aim at promoting active links with all twinned cities of Perm and would be interested in expanding those, primarily through mutually beneficial projects of adequate quality standards. The Mexican high visitor stated that several cities in her country had already voiced their willingness to twin with Perm.
“ I have come to Perm as the friend of this city which I really love. Moreover, I’ve witnessed many projects implemented in Perm and I am still willing to be part of this cooperation in future. I would enjoy being a “bridge” between Perm and Mexico”, said Ms Gorra.
Vyacheslav Torchinsky in his turn outlined the possible lines for cooperation.
“ We pay special attention to our music and arts schools as they play an important role as the first step to professional education for future musicians, artists and actors. We use every opportunity for the young people to join in events at various venues gaining precious experience of performing in public. The other priority is giving the young people the opportunity to meet professionals personally and participate in their workshops”, he stressed.
He also covered the events of the Summer school whereby the students of various culture educational establishments join together for an extensive training.
“At the moment we are seeking a person who could act as the head curator for the Summer school. And you might well become one”, suggested Vyacheslav Torchinsky.
He also invited Olivia Gorra to take part in the celebrations of 295 anniversary of Perm this year.
“ In autumn we will hold the Twin Cities Festival to mark the 295 anniversary of Perm. We welcome not only the partners with whom we have official relations under the signed agreements but all our friends from other regions. This festival can be our first step forward in promoting the twinning link”, concluded V.Torchinsky.
“This will be perfect”, replied Olivia Gorra.
Following the meeting both parties took a decision to consider all the possibilities for further cooperation.
